YouTube is set to expand its language accessibility features by enabling content creators to dub their videos in various spoken languages, going beyond the current option of translated subtitles. During the VidCon event, it was announced by the company that they are currently testing a dubbing service named Aloud, which is powered by artificial intelligence. Within Google’s Area 120 incubator, a place where employees can work together on new ideas, the service Aloud developed.
Aloud, an AI-powered tool, guarantees a speedy delivery of high-quality dubbing within a matter of minutes. The tool initiates the process by generating a text-based translation, which can be reviewed and modified by the creators. Subsequently, it produces a dubbed version. The platform offers users a range of options such as selecting from various narrators and choosing their preferred publishing method. According to Aloud’s website, their service is available at no cost, making it the best part of their offering.
The feature is currently being tested by numerous creators on YouTube. At present, the tool has access to a limited number of languages, with plans to expand its language offerings in the near future. At present, Aloud has the capability to provide dubbed versions of videos in English, Spanish, and Portuguese languages.
The audio track option can be found in the settings menu, represented by a gear icon. It is located directly below the subtitles toggle, and can be easily accessed by the user. The Amoeba Sisters science channel trailer is a prime example of utilising English as the primary language, while also offering a dubbed Spanish language option created by Aloud’s AI.

As a content creator, it’s important to ensure that your content is accessible to people no matter their location or knowledge of the language. According to a YouTube video posted by Aloud, Nolan Karimov, the content creator of Kings & Generals, said, “I always wanted to share my passion for history with the world, but I was limited by language.”
During its keynote, Google stated that the ease of dubbing languages can greatly expand a creator’s audience without requiring any additional effort. The availability of Aloud’s dubbing tool to a wider audience has not been stated yet. In the future, though, YouTube will “make translated audio tracks sound like the creator’s voice, with more expression and lip sync,” Hanif said.
